What Do These Terms Mean?!
-
The prewriting process, where I decide what events happen when and what characters get character arcs, serving as a rough outline of the book’s chapters.
-
A complete, but unfinalized version of the novel.
-
The first reader aside from me to read my manuscript. A very mysterious and mystical person.
-
A process taking the manuscript line by line to make sure the meaning of the sentences are clear and correct for the story.
-
The second set of readers to read the manuscript after me and the alpha reader. In my process, beta readers act like a test audience and look at the overarching plot, characters, pacing, and magic.
-
A process going in-depth into the grammar, spelling, punctuation, conventions, etc., of the novel. Super fun and engaging stuff, I assure you. I definitely do not get sleepy during copyedits. (Yawn.)
-
Formatting is the process of turning the manuscript from a document into a book. I won’t go into what this involves, or we would be here all day. The cover is where the front and back cover are finalized, along with the summary and the ISBN.
-
This is where I get ARCs (Advance Reader Copies). I’ll bet you wish you had ARCs. Well, too bad. I’m the only one who gets uglier versions of my books. You’ll have to content yourself with the beautiful, official publication. Ha ha!
